Priv. Doz. Dr. Dr. habil. U. Wernery

Scientific Director, CVRL

Dr. Wernery has been fortunate to practice in many countries, studying numerous animals whilst gathering an incredible wealth of knowledge and information about them.

Dr. Ulrich Wernery’s love of animals and veterinary medicine has always been a focal part of his life – inspired by his father who dedicated his professional life to the health and responsible handling of all creatures. The opportunity to work for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum opened up a whole new world of possibilities for animal health research and now, after 25+ years at CVRL, he continues to serve as a leading figure in veterinary science.

Having always known he wanted to work with animals, Dr. Wernery’s studies began at the Free University of Berlin where he gained his degree as a Veterinary Doctor. From there he was fortunate to practice in many countries, studying numerous animals whilst gathering an incredible wealth of knowledge and information about them. He says, “For someone fascinated by the specialties and beautiful diversities of animal species, this journey of learning was a dream come true!”

As Scientific Director of CVRL, Dr. Wernery was introduced to the magnificent creature: the camelidae. He was instantly captivated by this species, leading to his disease diagnosis research in camels and the whole kaleidoscope of animals represented in the Arabian Peninsula. He and the CVRL team pride themselves on being at the forefront of camel research worldwide.

Part of their winning formula is the enthusiasm that everyone approaches their work with, and the scientific excellence that stems from every CVRL department.

CVRL’s achievements reflect the value the institute places on the animal kingdom and its role in today’s world.
