Serology

The Serology Department focuses on the detection of antibodies in blood and serum, including animal fluids. We offer a comprehensive serological testing service to veterinary surgeons and customers both locally and internationally.

CVRL's serology department is the only laboratory in the region which is acknowledged by the EU to perform testing of equine sera for notifiable diseases for import /export. This means we serve as an animal disease surveillance system for controlling zoonotic diseases, and also help to facilitate safe international trade.

On 10 June 2009, the OIE International Committee confirmed the designation of the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory as the new OIE Reference Laboratory for Glanders and Camel Pox, with Professor Ulrich Wernery as the designated OIE Reference Expert.

Our specialist team performs tests on samples submitted to CVRL that includes a variety of animal species such as Equidae, Camel, Bovine, Ruminants, Canine, Feline, Rodents and Avian.
